Understanding Goth Fashion
Tell someone that you like to dress in all-black, and they might suspect you're a Goth. However, while black is the staple of Goth fashion, it takes more than that to dress like a Goth. True, the Goth subculture itself isn't really about fashion. However, you tell the world something about yourself by the way you dress.
The purpose of Goth dress style is to express your own individuality. Now, while black is a good default, many Goths add other colors to their outfits such as grey or white.
As a matter of fact, we're starting to see downright rich colors in Goth outfits: Hot pink, deep red, sapphire blue. But still, one thing remains consistent: Black is the primary color.
When you want to achieve a Goth style, accessorizing is very important. Lots of jewelry, and often piercings, are a hallmark of the style. Silver or pewter jewelry is common, usually in dramatic or chunky styles.
Religious symbols are popular as pendants, as they can be an important part of who someone is. You'll often see a lot of gloves and sleeves (arm warmers). Patterned tights are common. Striped or fishnet tights are a way to work color into Goth fashion.
If you're looking to dress in the Goth style, it's easy to find clothes that will work. One great place to start is at a local thrift shop. This way, you find lots of stuff for cheap, and you'll be able to alter it to your tastes. You can dye it or add studs.
But of course, since many people are keenly interested in the Goth look, a lot of companies have caught on and are supplying stores with lots of Goth-style clothing. Make the outfit your own with accessories and jewelry.
You have thousands of choices when it comes to dressing in Goth fashion. Because it's all about individuality, you will find that no two Goths dress alike.
