Treatment Options to Get Rid of Severe Acne

by Susan Lane

There are two types of categories for acne, severe and mild. Blackheads, whiteheads and pustules are some of the mild types of acne, these are also the most common type of acne. Although in this article we are going to focus on one of the sever types of acne, cystic acne.

Cystic acne is the worst form of acne that a person can experience. Its consequences are more serious than other types of acne. This is due to the fact that the infection penetrates deeply within the skin layers and can cause very large and painful nodules. It is also known as acne vulgaris. The factor that contributes to the formation of acne cysts and acne nodules is clogged pores that don't allow the normal flow of the sebum to the skin surface. The inflammation of the area is a defense mechanism developed by the body to attack infections. An acne cyst is the consequence of an extreme reaction of the body towards a severe infection.

When the body reacts in this way, the outflow of sebum starts. If the flow of sebum exceeds the normal level, bacteria in the follicles and skin surface will produce a larger infection. Moreover, the excess of sebum on the skin helps increase the appearance of large pimples caused by greater inflammations, bacterial and an oil surplus.

Understanding Cystic Acne

Retention keratosis is a condition that can worsen facial cysts. When skin cells, especially those that cover hair follicles are disposed improperly, the retention occurs. Improper disposal of cells leads to the clogging of these follicles. The bacteria may then pass over to other areas which causes acne cysts to worsen.

Another factor that may contribute to nodulocystic acne is hormones. The rise of the sebum outflow can be influenced by hormones such as testosterone and androgen. Cysts are formed as a consequence of sebum ducts being clogged since they impair the normal sebum outflow. Other factors such as genetic background and lifestyle of a person can determine the severity of the acne. The same is true of stress; it increases acne-related problems.

Treating acne cysts is possible despite the fact that they are very serious and the severe acne condition seems beyong the possibilities of products for severe cystic acne treatment. Accutane is medication that many doctors recommend for severe cases. Its function is to shrink the oil glands which will lower the acne infections. Although this medication has a high rate of success, there are also dangerous risks such as depression. This treatment should be considered the last option due to the important risks involved.

Another option can be provided by a dermatologist and it uses cortisone as the active ingredient. The injections provide instant relief of the area affected, reducing its redness and inflammation. After the injection is administrated the pimple is lowered to the skin level making it less noticeable. There are a few side effects such as temporary whitening of the skin and even indentation around the injection area.

It may be difficult to cure cystic acne however it is not a lost cause. Due to the complexity of cystic acne, acne skin care products that don't produce irritation or harm on the skin are recommended. Natural acne products are available that treat cystic acne as well as improve the skin in general.
